An odd shaped Black Eyed Susan.

I have grown Black Eyed Susan plants for many years but one summer these amazing, misshapen flowers appeared. They were a constant topic of conversation with the many visitors who tour "My Friendship Garden. If anyone has any idea what caused this odd mutation I'd be very pleased to know. This only happened once in all the years I have been growing Black Eyed Susans.

  1. I have also grown a beautiful triple spiral mutation. I'm just a lover of Black Eyed Susan. I wonder if the seed will reproduce?

  2. The mother plant died over the winter and all baby plants surrounding this area were the normal looking Black Eyed Susan the following spring. The mutation certainly was a popular topic of conversation. I have no idea what caused this weird mutation but really enjoyed the plant for the whole growing season. Where are your gardens located and did you only have the experience once as well? Thanks for your interesting comment.
